“Should I be a Piskie?” A Checklist.

I like checklists. They help fuzzy-headed people like me clarify my thoughts. I’ve pieced together from various sources a series of check questions that answer a conundrum that I am certain has been vexing Western civilization for many years now: “Should I be a Piskie?” (a.k.a., an Episcopalian.) A few of them are found below. Please read them and see how they strike you.

1. If you love to read and study the Bible, you just don’t want to be beaten with it, then the Episcopal Church welcomes you!
2. If you believe listening is just as important as talking, then the Episcopal Church welcomes you!
3. If you believe justice is about more than just locking up criminals, then the Episcopal Church welcomes you!
4. If you believe when Jesus said, “This is my body, this is my blood, do this in memory of me,” that he actually meant it, then the Episcopal Church welcomes you!
5. If you agree with Robin Williams that “male and female God did make ‘em, male and female we ordain ‘em,” then the Episcopal Church welcomes you!
6. If you believe good relations are more important than being right, then the Episcopal Church welcomes you!
7. If you believe when the Bible says “Neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, all are one in Christ Jesus,” it also means L., G., B., and T, then the Episcopal Church welcomes you!
8. If you are as worried about the hell-on-earth people live in today as much as the hell-of-eternity they could live in tomorrow, then the Episcopal Church welcomes you!
9. If you believe some of the best missioners are actually sitting in the pews, not the pulpits, then the Episcopal Church welcomes you!
10. If you believe that the life of a Christian is not about “Jesus and Me,” but rather “Jesus and We,” then the Episcopal Church welcomes you!

If you have answered, “Hey, that’s me!” to any of the above check questions, contact your local Episcopal Church immediately! You have just found a home! You can find your local parish in the directory of our national website at http://www.episcopalchurch.org. Pax vobiscum!
